Growing a Business Starts with Attitude

Life isn’t always easy. That’s a given. For Dr. Regina Lark, the teen years were not spectacular. But in her early 20’s she had what she calls a “click moment” where things just clicked and she decided to change her path. Now that’s kind of what she helps her clients achieve, through her aptly named business, A Clear Path.

On this week’s episode of NAPO’s podcast Stand Out – Growing Your Organizing & Productivity Business, host Sarah Karakaian speaks with Dr. Regina Lark about the power of changing your own perceptions and doing great things.

Sarah and Regina talk about Regina’s life before becoming a professional organization consultant. She earned a Ph. D by age 30. Visiting a friend on vacation, Regina surprised them both by – rather than sightseeing – taking a day to reorganize her friends kitchen. At that time, she didn’t even know people could do this sort of thing professionally.
The conversation turns then to the work of productivity and organizing. In Regina’s experience, she found a direct correlation between the anxiety or weight of whatever was on peoples’ minds – and the clutter they were living in. So she decided to write about it! She recently published the 3rd edition of her book Psychic Debris, Crowded Closets: The Relationship between the Stuff in your Head and What’s Under your Bed.

Regina and Sarah also talk about the importance of keeping your knowledge and skills sharp. Regina frequently leads seminars where she is the one teaching, but she’s always reading, taking a course, finding ways to learn more about organizing and productivity.

In terms of growing your business, it all circles back to attitude. Regina became a paid public speaker. She publishes books, all to market herself as an expert in the field. Just as, when she was earning her Ph.D, the thought of failure never crossed her mind, she never thinks, “why should I publish a book?” It’s more like, “why shouldn’t I publish a book?!” If you don’t believe you bring something of value to people, you won’t grow your business. Truly knowing that you DO have something special to offer – that’s how growth in business happens.

There’s much more packed into the interview – be sure you take a listen. To check out the podcast and subscribe so you don’t miss an episode, visit: https://napopodcast.com/.
